Paula Deen’s Product Descriptions
Posted on January 10th 2009 by Jillian Madison

Nowhere is the fact that Paula Deen is desperately trying to create and sell an IMAGE more transparent than in the descriptions of the products she sells. Have Y’ALL ever stopped to read the stories and anecdotes Paula tells about her pots and pans? We have – and some of them are downright ridiculous. Watch out for the same 4 repeated buzzwords: “treasured,” “fun,” “family,” and “memories,” Y’ALL!

1. The Paula Deen Porcelain 1 Quart Pouring Saucepan

Paula’s description: “Pouring through antique shops with my Aunt Peggy is one of my most cherished memories. This line was inspired by the many treasures she and I found on our adventures. My wish is that they are as fun to collect for you as they were for me.”

Our translation: Please. The two of them probably went out shopping once, 25 years ago. And what does antiquing even have to do with this pot? It’s modern!  It has a silicone handle and a nonstick lining for Christ’s sake!

2. The Paula Deen 3 Qt. Stack & Steamer

paula deen cookwarePaula’s description: “Childhood memories are so important to me. My copper bottom pots and pans remind me of the treasured time I had with my mother. Cooking with friends and family is so much more fun when you have the right tools, and these pans will give you pleasure for years. In fact, I hope you’ll pass them along to loved ones, a time honored tradition in our family.”

Our translation: Again with the memories?! What is she trying to sell, a pot or a new line of Kodak cameras?

And look, she’s recalling another “treasured” moment, but this time it’s with her mother instead of her Aunt Peggy. Ok, Paula, did you write these descriptions with a MAD LIB? Insert person’s name here! Insert activity here!

And if passing cookware down to your loved ones is a time honored tradition in your family, why are you always cooking with new pots and pans? Why not cook with one of the BELOVED, TREASURED pans Aunt Peggy gave to you?

3. Paula Deen 2-Piece Slotted Spoon Set

Paula’s description: “Like a good seasoned skillet, my grandmother’s wooden tools still add that special something to everything I make. I can’t quite put my finger on the magic but no kitchen should be without.”

Our translation: So wait, we’re buying the EXACT wooden spoon Paula’s grandmother used? Because unless we’re mistaken – and I don’t think we are – that is exactly what the description is saying. Wow, that spoon sure does look  amazing for being 170 years old, y’all.

Bottom line: People, if your pasta sauce is so bad that you need to buy into the hype of a “magic spoon” that somehow improves its flavor via the spirit of a TV personality’s dead grandmother, STOP COOKING RIGHT NOW and just go to McDonalds.

What? No bacon, buttercream, or donut shaped pans? Are you *sure* these are from Paula Deen? :)

  2. Diamond says:

Ok y’all, seriously I am from Savannah and I am all for Paula but at this point its a bit ridiculous! She is totally overrated now! Totally!!

  3. Cornell Craw says:

I grew up in Georgia and I can tell you that Paula is the real deal. She’s like every fun-loving, squishy grandmother who can fry up even a shoe and make it taste good. And it cracks me up that she gets so emotional over her cooking, wiping the tears after eating her cornbread. Oh y’all…

  4. Linda says:

I just wanted to say this was a nice article and I enjoyed reading it! The “bottom line” was very funny!

  5. Cuisineboy1975 says:

I was watching bits and pieces of the “Chefography” special about FN, and they showed vintage clips of Paula when she was the subject of one of Gordon Elliott’s shows. She looked like an ordinary, average middle-aged woman no different than what you’d see in the supermarket or shopping mall. It’s interesting what fame can do to somebody.

  6. Harris says:

She makes me sick… everything from her fake overdone accent to the amount of fat she puts on everything ……. The fact that she is so popular says a lot about the eating habits of our country. And the fact that people would pay so much money for these products says even more!

  7. Eric says:

This woman is an embarrassment to the South. First she is as lewd as you can find, and secondly, she gives good Southerners a bad image and reputation.

I also think her second son Bobby is a homo and this also causes Paula some consternation.

Her husband, Capt Highliner appears to be pretty ignorant too. I hope he gets ahold of some her cash as he has to wake up beside her every morning and that would be pretty nasty .

  8. LizAndrsn says:

I’m guessin’ that Aunt Peggy and Pauler’s Dear Momma would be shocked at the cost of those gadgets. Probably put both of them in the ground!

Wouldn’t they have just used plain ol’ cast iron and a wooden spoon? That says Southern to me — not Teflon and Olive Wood.

  9. Cuisineboy1975 says:

I’d like to know where she snagged that husband of hers. He reminds me of Cousin It.

  10. Marina says:

I ordered the Paula Dean 5 qt saute pan because I wanted a substantial pan for everyday cooking in. It is beautiful, but I was disappointed with the weight – it is too light. I feel it is made too flimsy for the $50 price.

  11. BP says:

Paula Dean used to be great to watch, now her accent is suddenly more southern, way more fake, and she’ and her two sons as obnoxious as Rachael Ray!

This was an amusing article, and I love this site! Glad I found you!

  12. Darius says:

I’d love to see her pitch “Bobby Deen Butter Flavored Butt Lube” . That would be great.

  13. JL says:

I know another slot her “slotted spoons” look like…
